FaxPress: An Introduction

Other Related Topics...

The client-based FaxPress is the primary FaxPress administration and fax transmission utility, used to manage FaxPress users and administer FaxPress units, as well as send and receive faxes.

The most frequent functions you’ll use FaxPress for include:

Sending and receiving faxes
Adding and deleting users
Configuring FaxPress server and user properties
Managing, job queues, phone books and cover pages

FaxPress displays your data in a convenient folder layout. The main folder is called FaxPress Neighborhood. When you expand the FaxPress Neighborhood, FaxPress displays all the available FaxPress servers on the network.

If you are using a Novell network, all of the FaxPress servers are displayed. If you are on a Windows network, all the FaxPress servers on the same TCP/IP segment will be displayed.

To access a FaxPress server on a different Windows network segment, you will have to manually locate the server by specifying the IP address and giving the server a name. For information on how to locate a remote server, refer to Locating a Remote FaxPress Server.

Starting FaxPress

Starting FaxPress will require you to log in using the generic FaxPress supervisor account. Three generic types of FaxPress user accounts are available to you:

The Unaddressed Mailbox
The Guest Mailbox
The Supervisor Mailbox

All of these generic user accounts or mailboxes are initially configured with no password as the default. Immediately assign a password to the Unaddressed and the supervisor mailboxes the first time you login to your FaxPress. By default, the FaxPress will direct all incoming faxes to theUnaddressed mailbox until configured to do otherwise.

To start FaxPress, the FaxPress client, follow these steps:

1. Go to Start>Programs>FaxPress>FaxPress.
2. Log in as supervisor, or as a user assigned supervisor rights, by going to Start>Programs>FaxPress>FaxPress on a workstation with the FaxPress Client for supervisors installed. By default, the password for the supervisor user is blank.
3. If this is the first time you’ve opened FaxPress, you will be prompted to activate your software.
4. Enter your FaxPress Activation key code and click Enable, or select Obtain Key from Web to get your activation key. You can also choose to license the software later by going to the Software Activation Key folder in FaxPress. See Activating the FaxPress Software for details.
5. If there are three or fewer FaxPress servers on your network, FaxPress will be the first window to appear. If there are more than three FaxPress servers on the network, or if the FaxPress is on a different network segment, the FaxPress Accounts window will appear, requiring you to select and add a FaxPress to log into.

If the FaxPress you’re looking for does not appear, it is located on a different segment, and you’ll need to add it. See Locating a Remote FaxPress Server for more information.

Logging into FaxPress

To log into the FaxPress server, follow these steps:

1. Either double-click on the FaxPress serial number/name in the FaxPress Neighborhood, or right-click on the FaxPress serial number/name and select Login As....
2. In the FaxPress Login window, enter supervisor in the User Name field. Leave the Password field blank. By default, unless it’s been reset, the password for the supervisor user is blank.

Although the supervisor account is initially set with a blank default password, we recommend that you set a password or establish your personal mailbox with supervisor privileges.

3. Once you’re logged in, expanding the Administration branch will display all of the FaxPress administrative features. These features are described in detail in FaxPress Administration Folders.
